Toyota has initiated a new recall in China due to improper settings in the multimedia display system control software, which may cause the screen to remain black upon vehicle startup and fail to recover, thereby affecting the defrosting and defogging functions. In extreme cases, this issue could impair driver visibility. Starting January 23, 2026, FAW Toyota’s Changchun Fengyue branch will recall 10,922 RAV4荣放 vehicles produced between December 5, 2025, and January 13, 2026. GAC Toyota will recall 5,056 Wildlander (Weiland) vehicles manufactured between December 11, 2025, and January 12, 2026. The total number of recalled vehicles is 15,978. Both companies will provide free software updates for the multimedia systems of affected vehicles to eliminate the safety risk. This marks Toyota’s second large-scale recall in China within just over a month, following its December 2024 recall of nearly 100,000 vehicles due to issues with the panoramic camera system. Despite these frequent recalls, Toyota achieved sales of 1.78 million vehicles in China in 2025, representing year-over-year growth and making it the only Japanese automaker to post positive sales growth in the Chinese market.
