Apple has introduced video playback support for CarPlay in iOS 27, allowing users to mirror videos from their iPhone to compatible new car displays via AirPlay—but only when the vehicle is stationary. While playing a video in an iPhone app, users can select their car’s display from the system AirPlay menu to watch it on the larger screen. Additionally, iOS 27 enables developers to build CarPlay apps with video browsing capabilities, letting users search for and play videos directly within the CarPlay interface—ideal for scenarios like waiting at airports or charging electric vehicles. For safety reasons, video playback is restricted exclusively to parked vehicles. Moreover, the new AI-powered version of Siri will come to CarPlay, though it requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later models. Apple demonstrated use cases such as asking Siri for the starting point of a hiking trail while driving. CarPlay also receives four additional enhancements: the Now Playing screen now supports scrubbing through audio playback, GPS location accuracy and navigation precision have been improved, a new mini audio player window appears within apps, and wireless CarPlay connection stability has been optimized. All these new features require iPhones updated to iOS 27. The developer beta became available on June 9, with a public beta scheduled for July and the final release expected in September for all compatible devices.
