Volkswagen delivered over 1.95 mln vehicles in first three quarters

It is reported that the Volkswagen brand and its sub-brand Jetta delivered a total of 1,954,100 vehicles in the Chinese market in the first three quarters of 2020, a year-on-year decrease of 11.1%. After entering the market, the Jetta sub-brand has achieved a market share of nearly 1% and has delivered more than 100,000 vehicles to Chinese consumers this year.

Dr. Stephan Wöllenstein, CEO of Volkswagen China, said: "The start of this year is full of challenges, but the overall car market is gradually picking up. The Volkswagen brand has also accelerated the pace of recovery, achieving continuous year-on-year sales growth since July. We remain optimistic about the overall performance of the Volkswagen brand in the market this year and will continue to push forward the product offensive in an all-round way. At the beginning of September, we showcased all SUVs under the Volkswagen brand, including the latest Tiguan X, in Chengdu. A few weeks ago, we also unveiled the new eighth-generation digital golf at the Beijing Auto Show this year."

In the first three quarters of this year, Volkswagen delivered a total of 558,706 SUVs, a year-on-year increase of 3.2% and accounting for 30.3% of the brand's total sales. Specifically, with the launch of TAYRON GTE and TAYRON X, the TAYRON series delivered 125,583 vehicles in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 28.2%. The Tharu delivered 105,527 vehicles in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 33.2%. The Toureg delivered 8,885 vehicles in the first three quarters of this year.

The best-selling model of the FAW-Volkswagen Volkswagen brand is the Bora, which sold 218,258 units from January to September, down 4.2% year-on-year. The FAW-Volkswagen Jetta brand's terminal sales in September were 13,708 units. The sales volume from January to September 2020 was 108,148. Specifically, the cumulative sales of the Jetta VS5 were 59,761 units, the VA3 were 32,277 units, and the VS7 were 26,867 units.

In September this year, SAIC Volkswagen’s sales volume of the Volkswagen brand was 154,600 vehicles, achieving a 19.8% increase from the previous month and a year-on-year increase of 1.6%. SUV sales in September were 52,765 units, a significant increase of 33.7% from the previous month. Specifically, the Teramont series sold 8,384 new cars in September, a year-on-year increase of 14.2%. Sales of Tiguan L and its plug-in hybrid version reached 18,295 units, an increase of 28.1% from the previous month. T-Cross sales in September also reached 6,918 units, an increase of 47.2% from the previous month.

In terms of sedans, the Lavida family sold 39,638 units; Lingdu sold 9,163 units in September, an increase of 5.7% year-on-year. Passat and its plug-in hybrid version sold 20,437 vehicles in September, an increase of 14.3% year-on-year. In addition, the large luxury business MPV Viloran sold 3,815 units in September, an increase of 37.8% from the previous month. In the first three quarters of this year, the Volkswagen brand delivered a total of 34,190 new energy vehicles to Chinese consumers, a year-on-year increase of 34.0%.
