Li Shufu, Chairman of Geely Holding Group and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), submitted a proposal during the 2024 "Two Sessions" calling for vigorous promotion of methanol-electric trucks to address the high pollution and high emissions associated with road freight transport. According to data, road transport accounted for 72.4% of China’s commercial freight volume in 2024, with trucks contributing 83% of total nitrogen oxide emissions and 90.4% of particulate matter emissions from motor vehicles. Li emphasized that methanol-electric trucks offer significant advantages—being clean, low-carbon, and renewable—and represent an ideal alternative to diesel trucks, particularly suited for medium- and long-haul freight operations. He also urged accelerated development of methanol fuel supply infrastructure, improved standards, and enhanced policy support to facilitate large-scale adoption of methanol-electric trucks and advance the transportation sector’s progress toward China’s dual carbon goals.
