In a recent interview, He Xiaopeng, Chairman of XPeng Group, stated that 2027 is likely to be the inaugural year for the commercial mass production of advanced humanoid robots. He described robots as the core embodiment of "physical AI," emphasizing their high software value and noting that once breakthroughs in capability are achieved, their scaling speed could far surpass that of automobiles. XPeng has opted to develop general-purpose humanoid robots closest to human form and has already restructured its team to focus on AI-driven robotic "brains" and motion control. Around May 27, XPeng Group held a mobilization meeting for robot mass production, attended by nearly 1,000 employees from multiple centers including automotive, powertrain, manufacturing, testing, and general intelligence. He Xiaopeng, Vice President Gu Jie, and LC Mi, head of the Robotics Center, were present at the event, marking the official entry of XPeng’s robotics business into the final sprint toward mass production. At the meeting, He Xiaopeng outlined key milestones: achieving mass production of humanoid robots by the end of 2026 and deploying them in XPeng’s offline stores as sales assistants starting in Q1 2027. He also highlighted that XPeng’s robots feature fully in-house developed technology across the entire stack—from chips and operating systems to joints and dexterous hands—making it the only robotics company in China with such comprehensive self-reliance. He emphasized that the company’s significant upfront investment aims to ensure superior product quality, aesthetics, and overall capabilities.
