Land Rover Recalls Over 250,000 Vehicles in U.S. Over Corroded Clock Spring That May Prevent Airbag Deployment

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Land Rover will recall 250,857 vehicles in the U.S. market, covering the 2020–2026 Defender, 2021–2026 Discovery, and 2022–2026 Range Rover models. The recall stems from a potential corrosion issue in the clock spring connector terminals of the airbag systems, which could cause airbags to deploy abnormally or fail to deploy entirely during a collision, thereby increasing the risk of driver injury in a crash. Land Rover stated it first observed an increase in insurance claims related to illuminated airbag warning lights in August 2025, and subsequent investigations revealed oxidation and fretting corrosion on the clock spring connector pins in certain vehicles. To date, Land Rover has not received any reports of accidents in the U.S. linked to this defect. The company advises owners to immediately take their vehicles to a service center for inspection if the airbag warning light illuminates and not to ignore this warning.
