The owner connected a 100-millimeter flexible hose to the car’s circular AC vent, directing cool air into the bedroom and maintaining an indoor temperature below 22°C throughout the night—despite outdoor temperatures reaching 32°C. This unconventional approach has drawn attention across Europe. Europe is currently experiencing an unusually severe heatwave, with temperatures in some regions nearing 40°C. Due to historically mild climates, air conditioner adoption in European households remains extremely low—averaging around 20% overall, with only 5% in the UK and just 3% in Germany. High installation costs and restrictive building regulations have left most households without effective cooling solutions. The MG ZS EV is a fully electric SUV from MG, a brand under China’s SAIC Motor Group. In the UK, it is available with either a 51 kWh or 72 kWh battery pack, offering a maximum WLTP range of up to 439 kilometers. The vehicle also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply capability. Its air conditioning system runs directly off the high-voltage traction battery without requiring an engine—unlike conventional internal combustion engine vehicles—making it more energy-efficient and eliminating the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The battery capacity is sufficient to power the AC system throughout the entire night.
