Recently, news of Chevrolet's exit from the Chinese market has drawn widespread attention. General Motors responded by stating that its joint venture will continue producing Chevrolet vehicles in China, explore opportunities in overseas markets, and provide comprehensive after-sales service support for existing Chevrolet owners in China. Currently, Chevrolet no longer has dealerships in multiple provinces and cities, including Beijing, Chongqing, and Hubei. Chevrolet’s official customer service confirmed that there are indeed no dealers left in Beijing, adding that the number of cities where Chevrolet models are still available for sale is now extremely limited, and suggested consumers consider Buick—a brand also under SAIC-GM. Sales data show that in June 2026, Chevrolet sold only one Equinox in China, bringing its total sales for the first half of the year to just 36 units. In 2025, annual sales totaled fewer than 9,000 units—plummeting dramatically from the brand’s peak sales volume of 767,000 units in 2014. Recently, SAIC Motor and General Motors finalized an extension of their SAIC-GM joint venture agreement, extending the partnership through 2047. However, the group is increasingly directing resources toward Buick and Cadillac, with both brands set to launch multiple new energy vehicle (NEV) models to deepen their presence in the domestic market.
