BMW M has announced that its upcoming all-electric M3 will feature a new "soundscaping" system designed to infuse the vehicle with the iconic sounds of classic internal combustion engines. To address performance car enthusiasts' discomfort with the silence of electric vehicles, BMW is recording the engine notes of several legendary powerplants—including the 5.0L V10 from the E64 M6, the 4.4L V8 from the E92 M3 GTS, and the 3.0L turbocharged inline-six from the F82 M4 GTS—using high-precision microphones to capture authentic acoustic signatures. These engine sounds won’t be played back directly; instead, they’ll be seamlessly blended with the natural whine of the electric motors to create a unique hybrid audio experience. Additionally, the all-electric M3 will feature a four-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering over 1,000 horsepower and 1,400 Nm of torque. It will also include virtual gearshift simulation and a pure rear-wheel-drive mode, preserving the driving dynamics and engagement synonymous with M models.
