At the i3 sedan launch event, BMW product chief Bernd Körber revealed that the next-generation 3 Series Touring (internal codename NA1/G51) will adopt a "dual-track" strategy, offering both combustion-engine and all-electric variants. He emphasized that most BMW models will not be limited to a single powertrain but will instead draw from a "technology toolkit" to select the most suitable solution based on market demand. Although the silhouette of the i3 Touring was unveiled at the event, the launch timing for its combustion-engine counterpart, the G51, has not yet been announced, with an earliest debut expected in 2027. Additionally, while a next-generation M3 Touring has not been confirmed, given that the M3 sedan will continue with a six-cylinder engine, a high-performance Touring variant could arrive around 2029.
