Since Changan Automobile released the “Shangri-La”project in 2017, the strategy of new energy has become the keystone of product transformation. Changan Automobile has launched multiple new energy vehicles including Changan Yidong EV and Changan CS75 PHEV. IIA has learned from Jiangsu Environmental Protection Agency that Changan Automobile will establish a manufacturing base of new energy vehicles in Nanjing, with a total annual production capacity of 240,000 units. And the designed production capacity of the first stage is 120,000 units. According to the project, an all-new platform of pure electric vehicle will be put into production. Based on that platform, Changan Automobile will launch various new models including sedan, SUV and MPV, and etc.
Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. Nanjing Branch is located in Jiangning Economic and Technological Development Zone. It is expected to cover about 2,192 acres with 1,492 acres in the first phase. The total investment amount is RMB 4.793bn yuan with RMB 3,47158bn yuan in the first stage. The new plant will be put into operation in 2020.
Zhang Baolin, Chairman of Changan Automobile, once said: "Changan Automobile will complete the construction of three new energy platforms by 2020. In 2025, 21 pure electric vehicles and 12 plug-in hybrid vehicles will be launched, including all types of models. It can be inferred that the C601 platform may be a high-end pure electric platform of Changan Automobile, which will provide a solid product foundation for Changan's new mid- to high-end brands.
After the construction of the Jiangning new energy vehicle manufacturing base, Changan will invest in four series of new compact sedan EV, compact SUV EV, high-end performance coupe EV and high-performance crossover SUV EV. Among them, the new compact sedan EV, compact SUV EV and high-end performance coupe EV are the new models based on the new pure electric C601 platform developed by Changan Automobile.
