Recalls in China in 2018 surpass 12M, US cars account for nearly 40%

The safety and quality of vehicles are still the focus of the public. At the same time, each vehicle company is also recalling vehicles for their respective safety menaces. In the entitle 2018, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued a total 169 recall notices.

After collecting relevant data, IIA found that more than 12 million cars were recalled in 2018. Among them, American cars accounted for nearly 40%, reaching 4,586,660 units, ranking first. Japanese cars, with a total of 3,625,764 units was recalled, came the second. Then is the German brand with a total of 1,882,811 units. Here are the types of recall faults and the proportion of data for each vehicle.

1. The number of American cars recalls accounted for nearly 40% of the total

In 2018, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued a total 169 recall notices involving a total of 12,323,722 vehicles in 51 brands. Among them, American cars recalled 4,586,660 vehicles, accounting for 37% of the total, Japanese cars 3,625,764 units, 29%, German cars 1,882,811 vehicles, 15% and Chinese-made cars 1,259,930 vehicles, 9%. Among the remaining cars, Korean cars recalled a total of 577,683 vehicles, the European cars 135,904 units, and French cars 109,568 units. (note: the European cars are European brands other than German and French brands)

2. Reasons of recall

Until December 31, 2018，GM had recalled 3,326,725 vehicles due to off-axis problems, 1,774,607 vehicles in 31 times recall for airbag menaces, 1,568,301 vehicles in 11 times recall for brake menaces, 1,423,393 vehicles in 7 times for lubricating oil increasing. In addition to the above problems, the State Administration for Market Regulation also issued 149 recall notices including engine sensor menaces, steering assist menaces, fuel leak menaces, and sunroof menaces.

3. The number of recalls in China in 2018 is 39.7% lower than that in 2017.

According to statistics, in the year of 2018, there were a total of 12,323,722 Chinese vehicles recalled, which was 8.132 million fewer than the 20,456,210 vehicles in 2017, a significant decrease of 39.7%. The reduction indicates that product quality is constantly improving, product defects can be discovered and corrected. However, more than 12 million vehicles have been recalled. In the face of large-scale recalls, vehicle manufacturers need further improvement in their product quality.
