Here is Energy Weekly report. We are committed to bring together all the topics and new launching vehicles in the new energy area.

Last week, there are two important investment news in the new energy area. One is that Nissan plans to invest in a Chinese independent automaker, and the other is that DENZA will receive another 300 million yuan investment from BYD and Daimler. In terms of products, the BYD Qin Pro EV Super Edition was officially launched, starting at 149,900 yuan with subsidy. Let’s have a look at it.

The latest

1. DENZA achieved 3 million yuan investment, plans to launch PHEV model.

On the evening of May 17, BYD announced that it would increase its capital by 150 million yuan to DENZA New Energy. Another shareholder, Daimler Greater China Ltd. (DGRC) will increase its capital by 150 million yuan. After the shareholders of the two sides increased their capital, BYD and Daimler still hold 50% of the shares. BYD said that the capital increase of the shareholders is used for daily operations and expenses including new product R&D, special equipment and mold investment, new product promotion, repayment of principal, interest expenses, and the building of service network.

In addition, DENZA released a new concept car preview picture. Seeing from the picture, this model is likely to be an SUV. It is reported that Daimler will mainly focus on the exterior and interior design, and BYD will develop the battery, motor and electric control system. In addition, DENZA will publish its new brand positioning and product trends at the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau International Auto Show that will open on June 1, 2019.

Editor: as the first pure electric brand in China focusing on the high-end market, DENZA has been famous for its long battery life and high quality in the past few years. However, in the past two years, DENZA has “disappeared” in the new energy area. The two shareholders increased their capital again, which showed that BYD and Daimler did not give up DENZA. And the new positioning of the brand and the launching of new models are expected to help DENZA back to the game.

2. Tesla upgraded the battery management system for Model S/X

After several consecutive battery explosions, Tesla officially announced a battery software update for its Model S/Model X. This update will modify the thermal management settings of the Model S and Model X models to help further protect the battery and increase the battery life. Tesla also said that its investigation with the relevant departments on the incident found that only a few car battery modules were affected in the Hong Kong incident, and most of the battery packs were not damaged.

Editor: In just three months, four old Model S battery detonation accidents have occurred, and continuous battery accidents have caused doubts on the trust of Tesla. Can the battery management system upgrade improve the battery safety of the Model S/X? Will Tesla provide battery pack testing for early models? IIA will continue to focus on it.

3. Nissan will invest in Chinese startups, targeting Weltmeister/HOZON/CHJ

On May 14, Bloomberg reported that Nissan Motors is considering investing in a Chinese electric car startup to gain a larger market share in China, the world's largest new energy vehicle market. It is reported that Nissan plans to acquire a 25% stake in the startup and has targeted the investment in WELTMEISTER, HOZON and CHJ.

Editor: At present, Nissan only has a model of Sylphy Zero Emission in China. Investing in a Chinese startup, whether it is for Nissan or the company being invested, is a “shortcut”: With the localization and intelligent vehicle network of the Chinese start-up, NISSAN will launch models that are closer to the Chinese market. For the startups, with the financial support of Nissan, the company will be more comfortable in terms of R&D investment, and secondly, it is expected to rely on Nissan’s global supply chain system and car manufacturing experience to further enhance the quality of its models.

New Models

Qin Pro EV Super Edition: 149,900-199,900 yuan with subsidy

On May 16th, the BYD Qin Pro EV Super Edition was officially launched with a total of six models. The price range is 149,900-199,900 yuan with subsidy. In addition, BYD officially launched a "Super Beijing version" model for Beijing, with a price of 149,900 yuan.

Compared with the previously listed models, the new car has been upgraded in terms of power system. Among them, the EV600 model has a maximum electric motor power of 135 kW and a comprehensive cruising range of 520 km.

Editor: Although the Qin Pro EV Super Edition model listed this time has not changed significantly in terms of appearance and interior design compared to the models already on the market, it has made more breakthroughs in terms of internal configuration and cruising range. In addition, the new car has been added five intelligent auxiliary systems and supported OTA of the vehicle . More importantly, the 520-kilometer NEDC comprehensive cruising range has also eased the mileage anxiety of consumers.
