April 24, the Great Wall Motor WEY brand signed a cooperation agreement with China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), and established a Joint Technology Innovation Center, to boost the development of China's aerospace industry and intellectually manufactured automobile.
IIA learned from WEY that the Long March-11 solid-propellant carrier rocket, CZ-11 WEY that is jointly named by the brand and CASC, was successfully launched in the Yellow Sea on Wednesday. The WEY brand has provided great support for the commercialization and mass production for civilian use of China's aerospace industry. Meanwhile, with the support of CASC's aerospace technology, WEY brand's intellectually manufacturing has gained new opportunities.
At 12:06 on June 5, 2019, the CZ-11 WEY rocket fulfilled China’s first sea launch mission in the territorial waters Yellow Sea and sent seven commercial satellites into the preset orbit, showing China's possession of technologies and capabilities required for such an operation and also indicated the country has found an alternative to its ground-based launch centers. In addition, CASC has also achieved three breakthroughs in exploring new launch mode, new business model and new user interaction model.
Liu Yan, WEY’s vice-president and general manager of marketing, said: The deep cooperation between WEY and CASC is not limited to the launch of joint name rocket. We will establish a “Joint Technology Innovation Center” to realize the integrated development of quality system and experiment, autonomous driving technology, new material application and hydrogen energy, and jointly promote the independent R&D and application of smart technology, letting space technology be at your fingertips.
As a car manufacturer jointly named a rocket, WEY will become one of the important carriers for the civil aerospace technology. It will provide strong support for the commercialization and mass production for civilian use of China's aerospace technology. WEY advances the technological innovation of China's aerospace industry with the top scientific and technological achievements of the Chinese automobile industry, boosting the efficient development of space technology and benefiting the people.
WEY has already reached a cooperation agreement with CASC to set up a joint technology innovation center to carry out technology research and development, and integrate all aspects of China’s aerospace industry into automobile manufacturing, including aerospace-grade technologies such as aerodynamics, zero-defect R&D, structural safety technology, application of innovative technology and materials, intelligent safety control technology, and joint verification technology.
WEY also hired Peng Kunya, chief designer of the Long March-11 solid-propellant carrier rocket, as the dean of the Joint Innovation Center and the WEY brand technical forensic officer, to ensure the WEY brand's product gaining more recognition.
According to the cooperation agreement between the two parties, their cooperation results of the center will be first applied to the WEY VV6 Aerospace Special Edition model, which will become a product of “high standard, high efficiency, high stability and high quality”.
As official statistics showed, the number of WEY users has exceeded more than 260,000, which may be larger with the injection of aerospace technologies.
