Mercedes-Benz India announced it will locally produce the ultra-luxury Maybach GLS SUV, making India the second market globally—after the United States—to manufacture this model domestically. Following localization, the vehicle’s price will drop from approximately ₹31.7 million (around RMB 2.454 million) to ₹27.5 million (about RMB 2.128 million), a reduction of over ₹4 million. India is already among the world’s top five markets for Maybach, with high-end models (priced above ₹15 million) accounting for more than a quarter of its total sales. In 2025, sales of top-tier models rose 11% year-over-year, setting a new revenue record. Going forward, the Maybach GLS will be offered in both imported and locally produced variants to cater to diverse customer preferences. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz’s premium electric vehicles in India now represent 20% of its top-tier model sales, and the company has launched the MB.Charge platform, integrating over 9,000 DC fast chargers. The company emphasized that it does not engage in aggressive price cuts, prioritizing brand value and vehicle residual value instead.
