In 2026, Chery Automobile announced that its self-developed "Rhino S all-solid-state battery module" has entered limited vehicle production, marking a significant breakthrough in battery technology for new energy vehicles. The battery cell boasts an energy density as high as 600 Wh/kg, delivering an additional 500 kilometers of range with just five minutes of charging and exceeding 1,000 kilometers on a full charge. More importantly, its safety has been dramatically enhanced— even when pierced by an electric drill, it neither catches fire nor emits smoke, and continues to discharge normally, effectively eliminating the risk of spontaneous combustion. Although current costs remain high and mass adoption has yet to occur, the technology is already offering long-distance travelers a new experience: “five minutes of charging enables half-day interprovincial driving.” Several domestic automakers are also actively advancing solid-state battery development, signaling that this technology could accelerate toward commercialization in the near future.
