SK hynix recently announced that its automotive LPDDR5X DRAM has received ASIL-D certification under the ISO 26262 functional safety standard—the highest safety level—from TÜV SÜD. This certification enables the product to be used in automotive systems with stringent safety requirements, such as autonomous driving control, anti-lock braking systems (ABS), electric power steering (EPS), and airbag deployment systems. To meet ASIL-D requirements, the memory incorporates multiple safety mechanisms from the circuit design stage, including ECC (Error-Correcting Code), redundant fuse repair functionality, and a fault notification system that prioritizes alerts based on error severity. Additionally, SK hynix has established a comprehensive functional safety and random fault management system to ensure product reliability in demanding automotive environments.
