A video recently went viral on TikTok, showing an 18-wheeler truck weighing 80,000 pounds suddenly losing control and skidding sideways on an icy highway in Minnesota, narrowly avoiding a crash. Posted by Armada Trucking Group, the clip has garnered over 2.1 million views. Experts warn that on icy roads, once a semi-truck loses traction, its massive weight and momentum can easily cause it to "jackknife"—a dangerous folding motion that is extremely difficult to recover from. Unlike passenger cars, trucks that skid should never slam on the brakes or make sharp steering inputs, as these actions can worsen the loss of control. The American Trucking Associations emphasize drastically reducing speed in winter conditions, avoiding cruise control, and pulling over to wait if necessary. Transportation authorities also note that nearly one-third of weather-related crashes are linked to excessive speed. Regardless of driving experience, extra caution is essential on icy or snowy roads.
