On January 18, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on X that the AI5 chip is critical to Tesla. He revealed he has personally dedicated several months to its development, participating every Saturday, and has instructed two teams to push the project forward with full effort. Musk described AI5 as an "extremely powerful" chip, with a single SoC offering performance roughly equivalent to NVIDIA's Hopper architecture, and a dual-chip configuration approaching the level of NVIDIA's Blackwell—but at a significantly lower cost and much reduced power consumption. The chip is expected to deliver a high-performance, cost-effective solution for Tesla’s autonomous driving and AI computing needs.
