Mercedes-Benz has unveiled for the first time the high-performance CLE Coupe codenamed "Extreme," which is expected to become the brand's second ultra-luxury, low-volume Mythos-series model. The new car will be powered by an all-new 4.0-liter twin-turbo flat-plane V8 engine, projected to deliver up to 650 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Spy photos from cold-weather testing in Sweden clearly reveal its wide front grille, massive rear wing, and widened track—even though the vehicle remains heavily camouflaged. According to the manufacturer, while the car is based on the CLE, its design is significantly more aggressive and may receive a distinct name of its own. The Mythos series was launched in 2022 with the AMG PureSpeed, limited to just 250 units. This move is also seen as a strategic shift away from the four-cylinder hybrid approach of the current C63, with the new V8 potentially destined for multiple future AMG models.
