Beijing recently released the "2026 Comprehensive Traffic Management Action Plan," announcing that this year the city will add 20,000 new motor vehicle parking spaces in the central urban area and introduce 10,000 paid, time-shared parking spaces through shared parking arrangements. To alleviate parking shortages, the city will also pilot nighttime time-limited parking in areas surrounding residential communities, optimizing parking resources by marking designated spaces and installing signage. Additionally, enforcement against illegal parking will be strengthened in key areas, including "strictly managed parking streets" and "no-parking alleys" in the core district, as well as around parking facilities. Furthermore, transportation authorities will promote the "zipper merge" (alternating merge) traffic measure, completing optimization and upgrades at no fewer than 20 intersections by the end of the year to improve traffic flow efficiency.
