On February 9, the Level 4 autonomous ride-hailing vehicle—bZ4X Robotaxi, co-developed by Toyota and Pony.ai—officially rolled off the production line at GAC Toyota, marking the transition of their collaboration from technical validation to large-scale mass production. Equipped with Pony.ai’s seventh-generation autonomous driving system, the vehicle has undergone extensive testing in complex urban environments including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, and features several key upgrades: 100% automotive-grade core components with multiple layers of safety redundancy; a 70% reduction in hardware costs compared to the previous generation, enabling compatibility across multiple platforms; and enhanced user experience through integrated features such as Bluetooth unlocking, voice interaction, and online music streaming. According to plans, Pony.ai will deploy approximately 1,000 bZ4X Robotaxis in first-tier cities by 2026, advancing the rollout of safe, all-hours, all-scenario mobility services.
