Amid declining electric vehicle (EV) sales in North America, several battery manufacturers are accelerating their strategic shift by reallocating EV battery production capacity toward energy storage systems. According to data from market research firm CRU, ten battery factories in North America have already begun retooling, with seven of them primarily targeting the energy storage market. This pivot aims to capitalize on the surging electricity demand driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI), as AI data centers increasingly rely on stable and efficient energy storage solutions. The move not only alleviates pressure from the sluggish EV market but also opens a new growth avenue for battery manufacturers.
