Infineon Technologies recently announced that its CoolSiC™ MOSFET silicon carbide power semiconductors have been adopted in Toyota’s new all-electric SUV, the bZ4X. These devices are used in the onboard charger (OBC) and DC/DC converter, leveraging their low losses, high thermal endurance, and high voltage tolerance to effectively extend driving range and reduce charging time. Peter Schaefer, Chief Marketing Officer of Infineon’s Automotive division, stated that Toyota—a global automotive leader—choosing CoolSiC technology underscores the critical role of silicon carbide in enhancing electric vehicle efficiency and performance. The company will continue to meet the growing demand for high-performance power electronics in EVs through innovation and its “zero defects” quality standard.
