New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently withdrew a proposal that would have allowed commercial driverless taxi services outside New York City, dealing a blow to Alphabet's Waymo expansion plans. The proposal, initially outlined in a policy preview last month, aimed to let autonomous vehicle companies like Waymo apply for permits to pilot robotaxi services. The governor’s office has confirmed the plan’s withdrawal. In response, Waymo said it was disappointed but remains committed to bringing its service to New York and will work with state legislators to advance progress on this front.
