On February 24 local time, Waymo, Alphabet's self-driving company, announced the official launch of its commercial robotaxi service in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas, as well as Orlando, Florida—bringing its total number of operational cities to ten. Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana stated that rider numbers have reached an all-time high, putting the company on track to achieve its goal of over one million weekly trips by year-end, with plans to expand service to more than 20 cities. Waymo emphasized that its autonomous vehicles have now driven over 200 million miles, with a serious injury or fatality rate just one-tenth that of human drivers and pedestrian injury incidents reduced to one-twelfth, underscoring its commitment to providing residents and visitors with safe, reliable, and enjoyable transportation options.
