Garrett recently unveiled a self-developed oil-free foil bearing centrifugal compressor specifically designed for electric commercial vehicles. Integrating an ultra-high-speed motor (exceeding 160,000 RPM) and an oil-free bearing system, the unit features a compact design—reducing volume by up to 50% and weight by 30% compared to traditional scroll compressors, while also lowering noise by 10 dB. Compatible with 400V–800V heat pump systems and environmentally friendly refrigerants, the compressor is engineered for maintenance-free operation over 45,000 hours. It will be integrated into the next-generation air conditioning systems of Kolin’s electric buses and trucks, with mass production scheduled for 2027. This innovation significantly enhances cooling efficiency, overall vehicle energy efficiency, and driving range, meeting global EV market demands for high performance, low noise, and sustainability.
