SAIC Volkswagen’s first EA211 “Golden Range Extender” recently rolled off the production line and will debut on the ID.ERA9X, which is set to open for pre-orders at the end of March. Built upon the 1.5T EVO II turbocharged engine, this range extender features a VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) turbocharger, a 350-bar high-pressure fuel injection system, and a deep Miller cycle, delivering high thermal efficiency and low emissions. A water-cooled integrated intercooler and a close-coupled exhaust aftertreatment system ensure stable performance under high loads and excellent NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) characteristics. The unit offers advantages including compact size, high efficiency, low noise, and strong adaptability. During extreme cold-weather testing in Heihe at -30°C, the ID.ERA9X demonstrated impressive performance: even with low battery charge, its 0–100 km/h acceleration time was only 0.8 seconds slower than in full-electric mode, and the activation of the range extender was virtually imperceptible inside the cabin—highlighting its balanced blend of robust power and ride comfort.
