On March 2, XPeng Motors announced that its new generation L4 autonomous Robotaxi has passed third-party closed-course testing and successfully obtained a road test permit for intelligent connected vehicles in Guangzhou, marking its entry into the public road testing phase. The vehicle features advanced autonomous driving capabilities and can operate without human intervention in most environments. He Xiaopeng, Chairman of XPeng Motors, stated that fully autonomous driving is expected to become a reality within one to three years. China’s national standard “Classification of Automotive Driving Automation” aligns with the international SAE standard, defining six levels of automation from L0 to L5, with L3 and above considered within the scope of autonomous driving. This milestone represents a critical step forward for XPeng in commercializing its autonomous driving technology and paves the way for offering safer and more convenient mobility services to the public in the future.
