Great Wall Motors Launches Million-Yuan Flagship SUV "Qilin," Targeting Premium Market with High-Displacement Hybrid

Great Wall Motor will launch its new luxury flagship SUV, the Qilin, in 2026. Positioned as a full-size SUV with a distinctive "boxy" design, the Qilin aims to break through the brand's current price ceiling and enter the premium segment priced between RMB 500,000 and RMB 1 million. According to insiders, the Qilin will offer two powertrain options: a "3.0T V6 + electric" and a "4.0T V8 + electric" configuration, supporting strong hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and Great Wall’s proprietary Hi4 hybrid systems. While most domestic flagship models currently focus on PHEVs, Great Wall is betting on large-displacement engines to establish a differentiated competitive edge. However, if equipped with the 4.0T V8 engine, the vehicle would face significantly higher consumption taxes, posing greater challenges to cost control and overall system capabilities. The Qilin is expected to reshape the landscape of China-made SUVs in the RMB 1 million price bracket.
