Guangzhou is emerging as a key battleground for global robotaxi operations. As a core city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou is home to two leading U.S.-listed companies—WeRide and Pony.ai—both of which have launched commercial operations in multiple regions worldwide. Meanwhile, XPeng Motors and R祺 Mobility (a mobility service under GAC Group) are also accelerating their expansion into the autonomous taxi sector. Currently, Guangzhou and the San Francisco Bay Area stand as the world’s two most concentrated hubs for robotaxi “unicorns,” with intensifying competition between them driving rapid industry iteration and advancement.
