On March 13, the first electric vehicle co-developed by Volkswagen and XPeng, the "Volkswagen ID. UNYX 08," officially entered production at Volkswagen Anhui's plant, with market launch expected in the first half of 2026. The two companies also revealed on the same day that a second jointly developed model is scheduled for release later this year. This collaboration began in July 2023, when Volkswagen and XPeng signed a technical framework agreement to co-develop two electric vehicles based on XPeng’s existing platform. To deepen their partnership, Volkswagen invested approximately USD 700 million in XPeng, acquiring a 4.99% stake. The start of production for the ID. UNYX 08 marks a new phase in their strategic cooperation—accelerating Volkswagen’s expansion into the new energy vehicle market while providing XPeng with capital and technological resources to jointly advance the development of intelligent electric vehicles.
