At the 2026 Amelia Island auction, a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E formerly owned by comedian Jerry Seinfeld sold for $320,000 (approximately RMB 2.32 million), far exceeding its pre-sale estimate of $176,000–$228,000. Dubbed a "wolf in sheep's clothing," this vehicle was jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and Porsche—its widened body required hand assembly at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory. Seinfeld purchased the car new in 1992 and drove it just 2,335 miles; after he sold it in 2016, it saw virtually no further use. Auction house Gooding & Company described its condition as "virtually new." Its rarity, celebrity provenance, and pristine state collectively drove the final price well above the typical market value of around $50,000 for a standard-condition 500E.
