On March 16, Ralf Brandstaetter, CEO of Volkswagen Group China, announced that the first jointly developed vehicle by Volkswagen and XPeng, the "Volkswagen-Smart 08," has officially entered production in Hefei and will be launched in the first half of this year. Built on the jointly developed CEA (Centralized Electronic Architecture), the vehicle features an 800V high-voltage fast-charging platform, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride™ 8295P chip, and a VLA intelligent driving assistance system delivering 1,500 TOPS of computing power. It offers a CLTC-rated range exceeding 700 kilometers and is equipped across all trims with CATL batteries, meeting safety standards that exceed China’s national requirements. As one of the outcomes of the strategic partnership formed in 2023, the Smart 08 has already begun rolling out to Volkswagen’s premium “Gold Label” dealerships. Brandstaetter also revealed that the second jointly developed all-electric model from the two companies will be unveiled later this year.
