Wang Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and founder of Alibaba Cloud, recently stated on CCTV.com that urban transportation has significant room for optimization. He pointed out that although cities know the total number of vehicles registered, they have long struggled to track in real time how many vehicles are actually on the roads. With AI technology, it has now been revealed that only about 10% of vehicles are truly on the road during morning and evening rush hours. Wang emphasized that spending 40 minutes commuting each day is "a waste of life," and AI should focus on enhancing humanity's most precious resource—time. By precisely managing and intelligently coordinating this 10% of vehicles on the road, urban traffic efficiency could be dramatically improved, significantly enhancing residents' quality of life. He believes AI will drive a fundamental transformation in urban transportation systems.
