Volkswagen has recently released a near-production preview image of its new compact all-electric crossover, the ID. Cross, which is set to be officially unveiled and enter production later this year. With a starting price of approximately €28,000 (around RMB 222,000), it offers an affordable entry point in the European market; costs could decrease further if local EV subsidies are reinstated. The ID. Cross is built on Volkswagen’s newly introduced front-wheel-drive MEB+ platform. Measuring about 4.16 meters in length, it features a boxy design to maximize interior space and is primarily targeted at urban commuting, intended exclusively for paved roads. The base model comes equipped with a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, while the higher-spec version features a 52 kWh ternary lithium battery, delivering a range exceeding 420 km and supporting 130 kW fast charging (10%–80% in approximately 24 minutes). Additional models sharing the same platform—including the ID. Polo, Cupra Raval, and Škoda Epiq—will also be produced at Volkswagen’s Martorell plant in Spain.
