FREELANDER, the new global premium new energy vehicle brand co-developed by Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, will make its official debut in Shanghai on March 31, unveiling its brand strategy and technology roadmap simultaneously. Built on Chery’s E0X pure-electric platform, FREELANDER’s first model exceeds 5.1 meters in length and features a 2+2+2 six-seat layout. It comes standard with air suspension and Level 2 driver-assistance systems, and offers both battery-electric and range-extended powertrain options—the BEV variant supports 800V high-voltage fast charging. The FREELANDER nameplate, dormant for over a decade, is being revived through Chery’s T1X platform and repositioned as an independent new energy brand, set to replace the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque, both of which are slated for discontinuation in China. Chery Jaguar Land Rover’s Changshu plant has allocated RMB 3 billion in investment to add multiple new models, with production expected to commence in 2026.
