Gerry McGovern, Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) long-serving Chief Creative Officer, has confirmed he will officially step down at the end of March. Earlier rumors that he had been “escorted out of the office” were previously denied by the company; his departure has now been formally confirmed via an internal memo. With over 21 years of experience in automotive design, McGovern led the design of key models including the Land Rover Defender, Range Rover Evoque, and the more controversial Type 00 concept car. He began his career at Austin Rover Group and Ford before joining JLR, where he earned widespread recognition. McGovern stated it had been a “tremendous honor” to work at JLR for two decades and expressed gratitude for the support of the Tata family. Incoming CEO P.B. Balaji also thanked him for his “significant contributions.” It is reported that McGovern plans to launch his own creative consultancy firm next.
