Jaguar Land Rover recently announced that Gerry McGovern, its long-serving Chief Creative Officer, will step down at the end of March 2024 to launch his own creative design consultancy. McGovern has led Land Rover’s design direction since 2006 and oversaw design for both Jaguar and Land Rover brands starting in 2020. He was instrumental in creating iconic models such as the Range Rover Evoque, Velar, and the new-generation Defender, helping propel Land Rover further into the premium luxury SUV segment. He also spearheaded Jaguar’s electrification strategy, including the Type 00 concept car unveiled in Miami in 2024. However, his departure means he will not be involved in the official launch of Jaguar’s first high-performance all-electric sedan. Although Jaguar remains committed to a fully electric future, its strategy has drawn skepticism from dealers and industry observers. The company has denied rumors of abandoning its pure-electric roadmap or introducing range-extended powertrains.
