Gerry McGovern, Chief Creative Officer at Jaguar Land Rover for 22 years, has officially announced he will step down at the end of March to launch his own design consultancy. As the creative force behind iconic models such as the modern Land Rover Range Rover, the new-generation Defender, and the Jaguar Type 00 concept car, McGovern redefined the brand’s design language with its signature blend of minimalism and luxury, and served for many years as a member of the company’s board. In a letter to employees, McGovern expressed gratitude to his team and Tata Group for their support, saying he looks forward to embarking on a new creative chapter. Although rumors last year suggested he had been dismissed, the company denied those claims at the time. Incoming CEO P.B. Balaji praised McGovern’s contributions, stating he leaves behind an “indelible mark.” A successor has not yet been named, and the impact of his departure on the future design direction of the brands remains to be seen.
