Mercedes-Benz China has announced a collaboration with Tsinghua University and artificial intelligence company Zhipu AI to jointly develop an on-device multimodal large language model, which will make its debut in the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sedan. This technology deeply integrates multimodal capabilities—including natural language processing, computer vision, and audio—with in-cabin sensing hardware such as interior cameras, delivering a smarter, more human-centric, and emotionally engaging interactive experience for rear-seat passengers. With this innovation, Mercedes-Benz becomes the world’s first automotive brand to deploy a multimodal large language model in a rear-seat entertainment system. Built on the latest W223 platform, the new vehicle features comprehensive upgrades in luxury, technological amenities, and overall presence.
