Honda and Sony have announced the termination of development for two electric vehicle models—the Afeela 1 sedan and an SUV—being developed by their joint venture, Sony Honda Mobility (SHM). The vehicles were originally scheduled to launch in late 2024 and 2027, respectively. This decision follows Honda’s recent comprehensive overhaul of its EV strategy, which has also led to the cancellation of several self-developed electric models. Although pre-production had already begun at Honda’s plant in Ohio, both companies have decided to halt development and will reassess SHM’s business direction. However, the two companies emphasized that their partnership remains intact and that they will continue to jointly plan a long-term strategy in the mobility sector.
