General Motors is recalling 2,819 pickup trucks in the United States due to a safety defect in the roof-rail airbag (RRAB) system. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which disclosed the issue on March 24, the affected models include the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, as well as the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 Crew Cab. The problem lies in the potential detachment of the left or right RRAB inflator end cap or rupture of the inflator sidewall, posing a safety risk. General Motors will inspect and, if necessary, replace the affected components in the recalled vehicles.
