From March 30 to June 28, 2026, Beijing will implement a new round of license plate-based traffic restrictions. On weekdays, vehicles with two specific last digits will be prohibited from driving each day: plates ending in 2 and 7 on Mondays, 3 and 8 on Tuesdays, 4 and 9 on Wednesdays, 5 and 0 on Thursdays, and 1 and 6 on Fridays. Certain vehicles are exempt from these restrictions, including police cars, fire engines, ambulances, emergency engineering vehicles, public buses, intercity coaches, school buses, postal service vehicles, law enforcement vehicles, specialized sanitation and landscaping vehicles, vehicles bearing diplomatic ("Shi") license plates, and those granted temporary entry permits into Beijing. Additionally, battery electric passenger cars (powered solely by electric motors) are also exempt. Vehicles registered outside Beijing must comply with the city’s relevant traffic management regulations when entering the city.
