Beijing has become the first city nationwide to launch the development and application of specialized commercial insurance for intelligent, connected new-energy vehicles. The new insurance product will be uniformly compatible with vehicles featuring Level 2 to Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities. Building upon the existing new-energy vehicle insurance framework, this enhanced policy specifically addresses risks not currently covered—such as those arising from "human-machine co-driving" and "machine-only driving" scenarios, as well as losses related to software and hardware upgrades. Initially, the insurance will primarily target newly purchased vehicles in Beijing, allowing owners to choose voluntarily between this specialized policy or existing products. Vehicles equipped with Level 3 or Level 4 autonomous driving systems are also eligible, provided they have legally obtained testing or road-use authorization in Beijing. The Beijing Insurance Association will roll out eligible automakers and models in batches under the principle of “launching batches as they mature,” promoting coordinated development between auto insurance and intelligent, connected vehicle technologies.
