A car salesman, Tyler Weaver, recently shared a personal story on TikTok: ten years ago, he bought a brand-new white Jeep Patriot, only to receive a call from the dealership a month later informing him that he had driven off with another customer's vehicle. It turned out the dealership had two identical Patriots in stock at the time, and staff mistakenly handed him the one that hadn’t yet been sold. The error wasn’t discovered until the actual buyer arrived to pick up their car. Although Weaver had already driven the vehicle for several weeks—accumulating significant mileage—and his insurance was registered under the other car’s details, he said he was relieved no accident had occurred during that period. Experts advise that in similar situations, buyers should immediately verify that their purchase contract matches the vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and contact dealership management right away. In most cases, the dealer is at fault and must correct documentation, coordinate with the DMV, or restructure financing arrangements as needed. The video sparked widespread discussion online, with some commenters saying they’d be willing to swap back to the correct vehicle, while others argued that after adding custom modifications, they wouldn’t easily give it up.
