Infiniti recently unveiled its all-new 2027 QX65 crossover SUV, drawing attention with its exclusive "Sunfire Red" paint finish—which contains real gold. This special coating incorporates gold-coated glass microparticles and is applied through a three-stage painting process: first, a red base coat; then a transparent mid-coat infused with golden microparticles; and finally, a clear topcoat for protection. Each vehicle requires approximately two gallons of this paint, and the production process demands additional security measures—even the transportation of the gold raw materials uses armored vehicles. Notably, Nissan employed a similar technique back in 2015 for the "Regal Red" color on the GT-R. Despite the high cost, this bold move adds a striking touch of brilliance to the market at a time when automakers are generally focused on cost control.
