On April 1, Chery and Jaguar Land Rover jointly launched the new "FREELANDER" brand, unveiling its debut concept vehicle. Originally a classic Land Rover series, Freelander has now been elevated to an independent brand under a new collaborative model: Chery leads product definition, technical development, and supply chain management, while Jaguar Land Rover oversees brand identity, design, and global markets. The new brand introduced the iMAX intelligent electric architecture, featuring a wheelbase range of 2,850–3,250 mm, supporting the development of mid-size to full-size SUVs and improving R&D efficiency by approximately 30%. The powertrain system is compatible with 1,000V pure-electric, 800V extended-range, and plug-in hybrid configurations. In the Chinese market, all models will come standard with an 800V high-voltage extended-range platform. The brand’s first all-terrain SUV will launch in China in the second half of this year, carrying forward Land Rover’s design language and featuring rear-hinged “suicide” doors, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chips, Huawei’s 896-line LiDAR, and the Qiankun ADS 4 intelligent driving system. It also debuts a co-developed i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system. The chassis is equipped with front and rear differential locks, a virtual center differential lock, and dual-chamber air suspension. The battery, custom-developed by CATL, supports 6C ultra-fast charging and features high-strength, explosion-resistant, and wear-resistant properties. The brand plans to launch six new models within five years.
