Michelin has recently launched two summer tires specifically designed for battery electric vehicles (BEVs): the Primacy 5 Energy and the Pilot Sport 5 Energy. The Primacy 5 Energy emphasizes high efficiency and low energy consumption, achieving an A-grade rating for rolling resistance—boosting vehicle range by approximately 10% (around 70 kilometers). In tests on the Volkswagen ID.3, it demonstrated superior durability compared to several competing models. Its new tread design also reduces braking distance by up to 8%. The Pilot Sport 5 Energy balances performance and efficiency, utilizing Michelin’s Energy Passive compound to lower rolling resistance. It has already been fitted on the Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept and outperformed comparable tires from Hankook and Pirelli in dry and wet braking as well as durability tests on the Tesla Model Y. As the electric vehicle market continues to expand, tires are rapidly evolving toward an optimal balance between efficiency and performance.
