Kia Motors kicked off 2026 with strong momentum, setting a new sales record. According to the latest data, Kia sold 207,015 vehicles globally in the first quarter of this year, up 4.1% year-over-year from 198,850 units during the same period in 2025. The Sportage remained Kia’s best-selling model, with first-quarter deliveries reaching 44,704 units—a year-over-year increase of 8.2%. Close behind was the K4 sedan, which recorded sales of 37,220 units, slightly ahead of the Telluride SUV’s 35,928 units. Both models posted year-over-year growth and served as key pillars supporting the brand’s overall sales performance. However, not all models fared well. Sales of Kia’s two all-electric vehicles—the EV6 and EV9—plummeted significantly due to the U.S. government’s elimination of EV tax credits, dropping by 46.5% and 27.1% year-over-year, respectively. Additionally, Sorento sales declined by 14.4% to 21,510 units. The iconic compact Soul, meanwhile, saw its sales crash by 70.8% and was officially discontinued at the end of 2025. Notably, Kia’s hybrid models emerged as the standout performers this quarter, with sales surging 73% year-over-year and becoming a major driver of the brand’s overall growth. Despite the strong start to the year, March alone saw a slight dip in sales—down approximately 2,000 units compared to March 2025—potentially signaling a cooling in market momentum. This trend warrants close attention, as it could influence the broader automotive industry’s trajectory in the coming months. For now, Kia remains firmly on track to surpass its full-year 2025 sales record, delivering what can only be described as a “stellar” opening performance.
